A march of elephants makes its way down from the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, across the dusty red plain, to the marshes in Amboseli National Park in search of water. I love the contrast in this image of the burnt orange soil with the big blue sky and puffy clouds. These two big bull elephants were walking together behind the herd, protectively scanning for any potential threats. I think these brothers are the true kings of the animal world – they certainly are the biggest. To get this shot I had to lie down on the ground right in the path of these oncoming giants, their powerful footsteps shaking the ground as they passed. It felt almost too close for comfort, but it was totally worth it!
